KENNETH CITY -- Ron Sneed, who's beginning his second term on the Town Council, was named vice mayor last week in a unanimous vote of his colleagues. The reorganization was required by the recent election that elevated Bill Smith to mayor.
Smith also recommended that Sneed be in charge of the Police Department and public safety; that council member Al Carrier be appointed to oversee public works; that council member Fran Luke be responsible for the recreation department; and that council member Chuck Webber handle the building inspections department.
Smith's recommendations passed with a 4-1 vote. Webber, who had wanted to retain oversight of public works, was the only dissenting vote.
