Mother of abandoned newborn soughtBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published March 26, 2000 TAMPA -- Baby Angel, abandoned less than an hour after her birth Friday behind Town & Country Hospital, remains in Tampa General Hospital in fair condition. Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies still are seeking Angel's mother. If found, she could be subject to charges of child neglect or abuse, according to Sgt. Rod Reder. The 7-pound 13/4-ounce girl was found on a T-shirt under a tree, still bloody from birth and with her umbilical cord attached. Nurses named her Angel because an elderly patient had died just before the child was found.
