Volunteers needed for citizen boards

The Brooksville City Council is now accepting applications from individuals interested in volunteering as members on the following advisory boards:

Brooksville Cemetery Advisory Committee: Three positions for four-year terms of office through April 30, 2005. To apply, an appropriate application form must be completed. Resumes alone will not be accepted. An application form may be obtained from the city clerk's office and must be completed and returned by April 11 at 5 p.m. to the city clerk, 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville, 34601-2041.

All applicants must be registered voters in Florida. Persons with disabilities needing assistance in the application process may contact the city clerk's office to make necessary arrangements at 544-5407 or TDD line at 544-5420.

Assistance available for first-time homebuyers

First-time homebuyers can now qualify for a special mortgage assistance program made possible by the Escambia County Housing Finance Authority, based in Pensacola.

Upon qualification, homebuyers will be able to secure 30-year mortgages at a fixed rate of 5.80 percent with additional aid available to assist homebuyers with down payment, soft second mortgages of up to $2,500 at no interest.
