Walkout's bay area effect slightBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published March 27, 2001 TAMPA -- The strike by Comair's 1,350 pilots had little immediate impact at Tampa International Airport on Monday because the nation's second-largest regional carrier has only two flights a day from the airport, both round trips to Orlando using 30-seat Embraer aircraft. "The only way it would be a serious inconvenience is for somebody on a longer trip with a Tampa-to-Orlando leg in the middle," said Brenda Geoghagan, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. Passengers with reservations on Delta Air Lines, Comair's parent company, should check whether any leg of their travel is on Comair -- which also flies under the name Delta Connection -- and contact the airline or a travel agent to make alternative arrangements. Delta has said it would try to find alternative airlines for all its Comair customers. The strike could present an inconvenience for winter visitors across Florida who will be trying in the next few weeks to get home to the 95 cities the airline serves in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
