Reading safari will take kids on virtual adventure

INVERNESS -- Altrusa International of Citrus County's Super Saturday for Kids program for April has a safari theme. Nature World Wildlife Rescue volunteers will bring a rescued owl and possum puppets to the program, scheduled for 10 a.m. April 7 in the community room at Lakes Region Library, 1511 Druid Road, Inverness. During this hourlong, free program, children in kindergarten through third grade will "go on safari" through stories, songs, games and crafts.

The Super Saturdays for Kids program is designed to encourage children to read and help spark a lifelong interest, according to co-chairs Barbara Greiner and Leslie Fraze. Altrusa International of Citrus County is a women's service organization whose primary goal is to recognize community needs and provide services focusing on literacy, family, women and education.

It's not too late to get a booth at Spring Festival

CITRUS SPRINGS -- Some spaces are still available for the Citrus Springs Spring Festival, scheduled April 7 at the Welcome Center on N Citrus Springs Blvd., near the fountain. The cost for a 10- by 15-foot space is $15. For registration or information, contact Kevin Price at 489-9734.

Browsers will have more time at library's book sale

BEVERLY HILLS -- The semiannual book sale by Friends of Central Ridge Library has a new feature -- expanded hours. The sale, scheduled April 4-7, will be held in the community room of the library, 425 W Roosevelt Blvd. The Friends will be able to offer more opportunities for interested customers to browse through the large range of interesting books and related materials.

Preview night, with $5 admission, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 4. Patrons will have the first opportunity to see all that is being offered. From that point on, the hours will be: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 5; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 7.

Volunteers will be on hand in the library lobby to show the Noah's Ark quilted wall hanging, the amusing Don Nedobek print, the lovely Steinlen print and the display case of sea shells. These prizes will be awarded at the May 17 general membership meeting. Winners need not be present.

Expanded hours will allow board members and volunteer workers to guide prospective buyers to the high quality reading material generously donated to Friends. All monies received from the sale and from donations made toward the four prizes will go toward the purchase of new books and materials for the library.
