Visit the new Jerome Brown Community Center to see what is being offered to the youth and adults of the community. Get the tour of the gym, a game-meeting room, the kitchen, offices, two adult softball fields and the bike/skate/jog trail. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Workshop emphasizes wildlife, habitatsThe Chinsegut Nature Center will hold a Project WILD workshop from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 5. This is an interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program emphasizing wildlife and habitat. The program is designed for educators of kindergarten through 12th grades. Project WILD capitalizes on the natural interest that children and adults have in wildlife by providing hands-on activities that enhance student learning in all subject and skill areas. Project WILD educational materials are provided to educators after attending the workshop. In-service credit available for teachers. Event emphasizes Mexican artworkThe Hernando County Fine Arts Council will sponsor "Desserts with the Arts" at 7:30 p.m. April 12 at Pasco-Hernando Community College Spring Hill campus. Robert Marsh will discuss Mesoamerican art. Marsh has made countless research trips to Mexico. The program and desserts are free to members, non-members pay $3. Reservations are required by April 8. For reservations call 596-9455. Teams, sponsors needed for relayThe American Cancer Society needs teams and sponsors for its Relay for Life. The relay is a non-competitive event that is designed for fun and raising money to fight cancer. Teams consist of 10 to 15 people from businesses, health care organizations, schools, churches, families and civic associations. For 18 hours team members take turns on the track. In addition, there will be a luminaria ceremony where hundreds of bags are placed around the track inscribed with the names of loved ones. Luminaria are available for $5 each and can be purchased between 5 and 8:30 p.m. at the relay or by calling Angie Beetz, 686-4009. The event will take place April 20-21 at the Springstead High School track in Spring Hill. Sponsorship opportunities range from $250 to $10,000. Contributions will stay in Hernando County to fund the American Cancer societies programs and services.
