Man shot several times near College Hill

TAMPA -- A man was shot at least three times Monday night in an apartment complex near College Hill, police said.

Gunmen fired repeatedly into the red 1989 Nissan 240SX the man was driving. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of Jackson Heights apartments on E Lake Avenue. After he was shot, the mam drove to a house a couple of blocks away at 3601 E 33rd Ave., police said, because he knew someone who lives there. A woman found him on her front porch and called 911.

The victim's identity and condition were not released late Monday.

Police questioned witnesses at the apartment complex, who all said they did not recognize the shooters.

Boy hurt in scooter accident expected to return home

CLEARWATER -- A 5-year-old boy hospitalized last week after he was struck by a car was expected to go home Monday evening.

Garrett Johnson was on a scooter Wednesday evening in the 1400 block of Regal Road when he was struck by a Camaro, authorities say.

Garrett was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with a broken leg and cuts on his head and face, family members said.

The driver was cited for having an expired tag.

Garrett remained at the hospital Monday afternoon, listed in good condition. A hospital spokeswoman said his family planned to take him home Monday evening.
