Anclote Elementary: Biosphere Improvement Day 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Parents, students and community members are welcome to come clean up, weed, paint and plant in the school's outdoor classroom. Calusa Elementary: Student of the Month celebration 3 p.m. today. Family Fun Night 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

Cypress Elementary: McDonald's Night 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Gulf Middle: Picture Day is April 5.

Mittye P. Locke Elementary: Science Fair judging 9 a.m. till noon today. Talent Show 7 p.m. Monday in the cafeteria.

Marlowe Elementary: Howling Happening 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Spinsations Skating Rink.

Mitchell High: Course registration cards are due today.

Northwest Elementary: Advisory Council meets from 8 to 9 a.m. today.

Richey Elementary: Student of the Month celebration today. Class of the Month celebration Friday. Advisory Council meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the media center. Field Day April 5.

Seven Springs Elementary: Student of the Month breakfast today. Student pictures with the Easter Bunny on Friday. Scholastic Book Fair runs Friday through April 5. Spring Fling 5-9 p.m. Friday.

Sunray Elementary: Science Fair on Friday.

Trinity Elementary School: Parent meeting 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria at Seven Springs Elementary, 8025 Mitchell Ranch Road, New Port Richey. Parents will have an opportunity to meet the staff of this new school, which will open for the 2001-2002 school year.

World of Knowledge Montessori: Spaghetti Dinner 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Masonic Temple in Tarpon Springs.

BRIEFS

The annual High School Voter Registration Contest will be held at all Pasco County high schools from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday. Community members as well as high school students are encouraged to register to vote or make changes to their present registrations during the contest.

Deerwood Academy, a new charter school for grades 5 through 8 that is scheduled to open in fall 2001, will hold Open House meetings from 7 to 9 p.m. April 2, 4, and 6 at the Unity Church of New Port Richey, 5844 Pine Hill Road, Port Richey. For information call (727) 849-7849.

Seven Springs Elementary School and the new Trinity Elementary School will hold a kindergarten orientation meeting from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. April 5 in the media center at Seven Springs Elementary School, 8025 Mitchell Ranch Road, New Port Richey. This informational meeting is for parents of incoming kindergarten students. There will be no tours at this time and it is not necessary for children to attend.

NEWSMAKERS

Mala Simham won the Geography Bee held at Genesis Preparatory School. Other students competing were Andre Ayub, Derek Clark, Susan Al'Khafaji, Deryl Burney, Melissa Schrader, Daniel Youakim, Ibraheem Sakfeh and Mala Simham. At the Pasco Regional Science Fair, Gulf Middle School sixth-grader Bridget Gallagher placed second in the physics division. Sixth-grader Jason Coker placed third. February Students of the Month are Courtney Ettel, Sam Falzone, Michele Walkicke, Jelena Vuksanovic, Allison Rinehart, Brian Peregoy, Kimberly Mott, Ryan Esch, Irene Freeman, Dale Johnson, Roger Middleton, Ashley Chittum, Michael Kilgore, Jasmina Vuksanovicand Timmy DeVries.

Greg VanBemden, a senior at Genesis Preparatory School, has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.

Christina Donataccio was named February Student of the Month at Marchman Technical Education Center.

Alexander Kelly Coleman, a freshman at Hudson High School, has been chosen as one of Florida's Top 25 Teens, by a committee of judges from The Next Step magazine. Her dedication to school, religion, community and musical pursuits will be recognized in the March issue of the magazine.

Sherry Donataccio and Jessica Dorey have been named Writers of the Month at Shady Hills Elementary School. Expressionist winners are Essay: Lacey Clark, Kayla Snodgrass, Andy Parsons; Poem: Sonya Rhoades; Illustration: Hallie Bislick, Josh Barnett, Chelsea Kelly.

At the Florida Vocal Association's Solo and Ensemble Festival, Gulf Middle School students Angelika Koutsoilia and Amy Thompson received superior ratings. Lee Downing and Katie Russo received excellent ratings.

Mitchell High School has selected Science Fair Winners. First place: Chris Dougherty, Sara Gagen, Zack McLemore, Mary Beth Wilson, Sara Cantwell, Jamie Koshko, Jugal Gandhi and Louis Garvey. Second place: James Chiappone, William Dailey, Kim Reynolds, Danielle Pmeroy, Jennifer Wert and Stephanie Wetzel. Third place: Jessica McDonald, Whitnie Clark, Kyle Hagerty, Derek Mitchell, Nathan Davis, Danielle Hoegler and Brooke Frankenfield.
