BROOKSVILLE -- Don Lucas shot a two-day 139 this past weekend to win the A Flight championship in the 30th annual Tangerine Invitational at Brooksville Golf & Country Club.
Richard Christensen was second with a 141.
Chandler Beasley, a junior on the Hernando High School team, represented the county by winning the C Flight with a 153.
Other winners included: Curt Madson, B Flight, 145; Mike Hinkle, D Flight, 156; Richard Burton, Fifth Flight, 157; Rick Schonder, Sixth Flight, 152; Leon Summers, Seventh Flight, 164.
fASSISTANTS, PLEASE: Matt Mitchell of Countryside Golf Club shot a 70 on Monday to win his second straight event on the WCCPGA Assistant's Tour at Feathersound.
Mike Murphy (Citrus Hills) was second with a 71, and Harley Hjerpe (Bayou Club) was third at 72. Murphy, who won at Silverthorn in mid-February, earned $615.
Todd Westfall (World Woods) carded a 76 and finished tied for seventh to lead all North Suncoast entrants.
WELLINGTON: Don Spencer and Howard Keefer tied to win the Wellington Golf League event at Seven Hills last Thursday.
Phil Cohen, Phil Froh and Don O'Connell tied for second.
Cathy Houser won the women's competition. Maria Sullivan was second, and Mae Rowe was third.
HERNANDO COUPLES: The team of Bea and Bob Belknap and Peg and Ray Lilly tied to win the league's "two best balls of four" event March 1 at Sherman Hills with a 101.
Pat and Glenn Garrison and Mayrilyn and Joe Pellettieri were second at 103. Julie Gatto and John Young and Charlotte and Don Hecht were third with a 107. Other placers were: Paula and Ed Agurkis and Barbara and Ken Gautier, fifth, 109.

HERNANDO LADIES: Beverly Pickens fired an 82 on Monday to win the low-gross competition in the A Flight of a league event at Oak Hills.
Nancy Morton (84) was second in the A Flight, edging Barbara Fleming (85). Marie Gabriele (62) won the A Net competition, beating Ruth Troyer (65) and Diana DiVita and Peg Lilly (66). Jan Himmelspach (92) won the B Gross competition, followed by Gloria Carbaugh (95) and Jan Broderick and Elizabeth Condon (97). Betsey Lowery (62) won the B Net event, beating Maden (65) and Neil Craine (66).
Janet Lillvik (93) took the C Gross tourney title, ahead of Shirley Meade (98) and Yuke Maier (99). Mary Koch (60) won the C Net event, followed by Elaine Simpson (63). Ruth Ferguson and Kit Bargfrede tied for third with a 64. Betty Seeley (100) won the D Gross event, ahead of Jan Baus (102) and Julia Manley (105). Margaret Hoerst and Lee Abare (61) were best in the D Net bracket, beating Nancy Colton and Helen Lynch (66).
The next Hernando Ladies Golf League event will be April 30 at Twisted Oaks in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
DOGWOOD: The 30th annual Dogwood Classic Tournament, one of Florida's oldest amateur events for women, will be contested April 12-13 at BGCC. Players with handicaps of 30 and less are invited to participate. For more information, call (352) 796-8879.
ST. JOHN'S: The sixth annual St. John's Episcopal Church of Brooksville Golf Tournament is scheduled for 8 a.m. June 2 at Rivard Golf and Country Club. ACE: Dean Parker, 70, hit a hole-in-one on the 195-yard, par-3 third hole at Rivard on Wednesday. He used a 5-iron to sink his fourth ace in 55 years of playing.
