Captain's corner

Poor weather has hampered spring action, but we have gotten two to three days a week of tolerable winds. On these comfortable trips fish are aggressive and the action has been non-stop. Kingfish are scattered along the coast and can be found on just about every well-known hot spot in our area. When weather patterns improve, their migration will be in full swing. The key to success has been clear water, hard to find because the wind has stirred the water. April probably will be best for kings.

The grouper action has started to improve. Shallow rock piles have produced some keepers this week. Live baits have been best, but a few have been trolled up with large deep-diving plugs when the water is clear. A few cobia have been caught by anglers fishing close to shore. Expect more in our area in the next few weeks. When water temperatures hit 72, cobia will move in mass to the area.
