Mutiny acquires Colorado's Kartes

The Mutiny traded a 2002 second-round Major League Soccer pick and 2003 third-round SuperDraft pick to Colorado Friday for forward Gus Kartes.

The 19-year-old Tarpon Springs native, who trained with the team as a guest player throughout the preseason, was claimed by Colorado one week ago in a weighted lottery after his clearance from the Greek federation.

"This was a no-brainer on our part," Mutiny president and general manager Bill Manning said. "For the first time in team history, we have a local product who has gone through the FYSA system.

"Gus' return will help create excitement among our fans, especially those in the Greek community. Best of all, Gus in going to make us a better team."

In Plant City, Mamadou Diallo scored two first-half goals and assisted on the first goal of the second half as the Mutiny closed its preseason with a 4-0 victory over the Plant City All-Stars at Otis Andrews Field. Diallo, who had two goals on penalty kicks in other preseason matches, got his first two goals from the field in the 17th and 45th minutes. His first score was from Carlos Valderrama and his second came from Steve Ralston. Also, Kartes scored on a Diallo assist and Ali Curtis scored from Kevin Anderson.
