Monday

MARRIAGE PREPARATION CLASSES: Tampa Jewish Family Services offers an ongoing marriage preparation class, Making Marriage Succeed. It begins at 6 p.m. for four consecutive Mondays. Topics include exploring realistic views of marriage, developing an understanding of differences, improving communication and sharing goals. Cost is $50 per couple. Upon completion, the couple qualifies for a discount on a marriage license. Many other programs are offered, and everyone is eligible to receive services regardless of ability to pay, race, religion, age, sexuality, nationality or handicap. GYMNASTICS CLASSES: The Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department is offering recreational gymnastics classes for boys and girls ages 2 to 12. Kids will learn vaulting, bars, balance beam, trampoline and tumbling. Classes will be taught by John Stephensen's Gold Medal at the following recreation centers: Town 'N Country, Jackson Springs, Northdale, Egypt Lake, Timberlane, Northlakes, Riverview and Providence. BOOK OF ACTS: Moody Bible Institute will offer a class on the Book of Acts from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Open registration will be 30 minutes before class. Class will be at Calvary Community Church, 4811 George Road. Cost is $30 and $20 for seniors (age 60 and over). For information, call (813) 884-4328. TRAFFIC CALMING: Hillsborough County staff will hold a public meeting at 6:30 pm. at Mort Elementary School, 1806 Bearss Ave. The topic will be traffic calming along 151st Ave. from 12th Street to Livingston Ave. at Sinclair Hills Road and U.S. 41. A recommendation to county commissioners on solving the traffic problem will be based on this meeting. For information, call (813) 272-5275.

MOM'S NIGHT OUT: The Tampa Chapter of Mothers & More (previously known as FEMALE) will host its monthly Mom's Night Out at 7 p.m. at Green Parrot Pub, 11759 N Dale Mabry Highway. The not-for-profit support organization is for women making the transition from employment outside the home to full-time motherhood. All members and visitors are invited. COMMUNITY PLAN CHARRETTE: The Hillsborough County Planning and Growth Management Department is having a Community Plan Charrette. The charrette, a plan design workshop held over several days, will run from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday. The Community Plan will outline the future of Town 'N Country as prepared by the Genesis Group, an engineering and planning consulting firm hired by Hillsborough County. The subconsultant is Duany Plater-Zyberk. The community is invited to attend to provide suggestions on what the plan will address. Meetings will be at the Jewish Community Center/Federation Campus, 13009 Community Campus Drive, east of the Veteran's Expressway. For information, call (813) 276-8455.

NURSING SERVICE OPEN HOUSE: The nursing staff at James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., is holding its second Nursing Service Open House from 4 to 8 p.m. Nationally renowned speaker Leslie Gibson, a registered nurse, will speak on "Health and Humor in Nursing Practice." This year's theme is "Unwrap Your Potential and Give Yourself the Gift of an Exciting Career." The event will include a complimentary buffet by Luigi's Catering, poster sessions by the nursing staff and unit tours. Also, break-out sessions will be held, and nurse recruiter Veronica Vega will be on hand to answer questions regarding employment. Bring your resume. TRAFFIC CALMING: Residents are invited to a public meeting held by Hillsborough County staff to discuss traffic calming along Willowdale Road. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Northwest Elementary School, 16438 Hutchison Road. The traffic problem along Willowdale Road runs from Rawls Road to Redcliffe Drive, near Bellamy and Ehrlich roads in the Citrus Park area. FERN GARDEN CLUB: The Fern Garden Club of Odessa will meet at Keystone Park, 17928 Gunn Highway, for coffee at 9:30 a.m. A program will follow at 10 a.m. featuring guest speaker Martha Hall. MARILYN MONROE EPIC TALE: The TheatreUSF will present The Life and Death of Marilyn Monroe at the University of South Florida, 4202 E Fowler Ave. The production is sponsored by the Werner and AnneVon Rosenstiel TheatreUSF Endowment in German Theatre. Show times will be at 8 p.m. April 5-7, 11-14 and 3 p.m. April 8. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for seniors and students. For information, call (813) 974-2323.

Friday

PHILFEST 2001: The sixth annual Philippine festival, "PhilFest 2001," will be held on the festival grounds on Nine Eagles Road, off Race Track Road. The festival will run from 4 to 11 p.m. today, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. It will feature dances, songs and music, exhibits, a pictorial history, handicrafts and Philippine embroidered shirts, dresses and accessories. Ethnic and regional foods and beverages will be available. Tickets are $4 in advance, $5 at the gate; children 5 and under admitted free. Proceeds will benefit the Philippine Bayanihan Arts Center. ROTARY CLUB: The New Tampa Rotary Club will hold its weekly breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. in the Palms Room at Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd. Heather Guarkee of the American Cancer Society will be guest speaker.
