Perhaps Tony Dungy and Bucs management could be criticized for failing to acquire a viable seasoned starting quarterback before the start of last season.
Outside of being placed in the fire prematurely, Shaun King has developed his quarterback skills with the coaching he has received.
Now with the acquisition of Brad Johnson, Shaun will continue to develop according to the original blueprint, as an understudy to a veteran.

Remind the poor gentleman named David Highlands (Commentary, March 25) what it was like the previous 12 years before we were blessed with Tony Dungy. I don't have all the statistical information, but as I recall the basics were double-digit losses for 12 consecutive seasons.
People, quit embarrassing yourselves by complaining about the coach who nearly every other team in the NFL would kill to have. Remember the guys who were afraid to come to this Godforesaken NFL burial ground before Tony?
How can you complain about the guy who has made our team so prominent that players like Simeon Rice and Brad Johnson and Ryan Leaf take pay cuts and pass on better opportunities to have the chance to win with Tony?
As for Dave's love for (Mike) Holmgren and (Vince) Lombardi, I think I smell something nasty. Dave, change the Swiss cheese hat you have on your head and go back to where you obviously came from. Don't worry, Tony, some of us out here think you have done a fantastic job, but if you keep going 11-5 and 10-6, we may have to put a call in for Richard Williamson.

Kudos to Mark Wendel for taking Gary Shelton to task for his negative comments about the UF basketball team.
The Gators rose above enormous adversity this season to become SEC co-champions and play in the NCAA Tournament.
Neither the players nor their superb coach, Billy Donovan, allowed the numerous physical and emotional problems to get in their way.
