New mayor chats with Bush
New St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker flew to Tallahassee Tuesday morning with Tampa Mayor Dick Greco, met with Pinellas legislators, ate lunch at the private Governor's Club and met with a powerful friend: Gov. Jeb Bush.
Baker said he met privately with Bush, who attended a campaign fundraiser for him in January, and discussed the mayoral campaign. The new mayor also made a pitch for state money for a drug treatment center in St. Petersburg.
Later, Baker and other big-city mayors met with the governor. They expressed concern about legislation that would make it more difficult for cities and counties to require billboards to be removed.
Baker flew back to St. Petersburg to catch the first pitch at the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' home opener.
