Second standoff peacefulBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 5, 2001 PINELLAS PARK -- Two days after Pinellas Park police shot and killed an armed man during a standoff at a house, they were called out to yet another standoff Wednesday. As on Monday, an angry man was breaking things inside a home. But this time, police negotiators were able to talk the man into surrendering peacefully. Kirk L. Shaw Jr., 29, put down the table leg he had been using to smash things inside a barricaded apartment Wednesday morning, police said. Shaw was arrested at Wedgestone Apartments, 8400 49th St. N. He was charged with false imprisonment and domestic battery. Shaw had been staying with his sister, Celeste Stepp. Police say Shaw punched Stepp and held her down before Stepp got out of her apartment with her child and called 911. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
