Teens accused of setting abandoned boat on fireBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 6, 2000 SAFETY HARBOR -- Two 14-year-old boys were in custody Wednesday afternoon after a powerboat was set on fire near Safety Harbor Middle School. No one was injured. Pinellas County sheriff's Sgt. Greg Tita said the boys were passing by and ignited leaves inside the boat. The boys were expected to be charged with arson. The fire happened at 3 p.m. The powerboat, which was about 20 feet long and on a trailer, was abandoned on the road next to the school at 125 Seventh St. N several days ago, Tita said. The blaze destroyed the boat. There was no motor or registration numbers on the boat, and deputies had not identified the owner. No loss estimate was available.
