Jail inmate faces charges of battery, imprisonment
NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 21-year-old jail inmate was charged with battery and false imprisonment after deputies said he held down another inmate on a bed Tuesday.
According to authorities, a 20-year-old man was tied to a bed by five other inmates, and at least one of the five fondled the victim. The attackers, all inmates at the county jail in New Port Richey, were wearing pillowcases over their heads.
The victim kicked at the men and was able to free himself and alert corrections deputies, a report said.
Inmate Jonathan E. Hanley, formerly of 7250 Mahaffey Drive, New Port Richey, was charged. In addition to the battery and false imprisonment charges, he also was charged with wearing a mask while committing an offense.
Hanley was in custody for a probation violation. He is being held at the county jail without bail. The incident is under investigation, and charges against other inmates are possible.
Baby burned by grease is in serious condition
HUDSON -- The condition of a baby that was burned by hot grease is improving, hospital officials said Thursday.
Robert Dale Parks, 15 months, was burned in his family's Bluegill Lane home on Wednesday afternoon. His mother accidentally dropped hot grease on him.
Robert was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he is being treated for burns on his chest, arm and leg. According to a Pasco County Sheriff's report, the baby suffered first- and second-degree burns over 20 percent of his body.
A Tampa General spokeswoman said Thursday that the baby was in serious condition.
Woman, 39, charged with battery on her mother
HOLIDAY -- A 39-year-old woman was charged Wednesday with battery on a person over 65 after she pushed her 72-year-old mother, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
Anna Marie Tsamutalis of 3530 Emery Drive, Holiday, got into an argument with her mother at 3 p.m. over Tsamutalis' drinking, a report said. The mother poured some wine down the sink, and Tsamutalis pushed her.
Tsamutalis was arrested and is being held on a $5,000 bail at the county jail in Land O'Lakes.
