Finding material in presidential dummies

Jim Teter uses the wooden kind, but he finds ample material for a finale with presidents Clinton, Bush, Carter and Ford.

Comic Jim Teter claims to do the impossible: political satire without ever being offensive.

"His show begins with a rapid-fire stand-up comedy routine," according to a news release. "And his finale with the presidential dummies -- including presidents Clinton, Bush (the first), Carter and Ford -- is truly a classic."

Teter's political diplomatic abilities will be put to the test today at the Polish American Pulaski Association Inc., when he does his act at a dinner and show. Dinner is at 3 p.m., the show at 6 p.m.

Teter has appeared in 27 countries, performed at the White House, been on the Tonight show and was featured on an HBO special with Steve Allen. He has appeared in concert with Tony Bennett, Dolly Parton, Roy Clark, John Davidson, Vince Gill, The Commodores and Reba McEntire.

The show includes comic routines and comedic ventriloquism using the presidential dummies.

"We've already sold 174 tickets, but we have room for many more," said Helen Baker, who is in charge of reservations. Those who want both dinner and show are encouraged to call for reservations at 934-4594. Tickets for both dinner and show also will be available at the door until 5:15 p.m. Tickets for the show only will be available until shortly before 6 p.m., Ms. Baker said.

The dinner show is the last in a series of seven shows that have been held at the Polish American Pulaski Association since October.
