Bicyclist badly hurt in crash on U.S. 19

HOLIDAY -- A bicyclist was severely injured Saturday afternoon when he was hit by a Chevrolet Blazer on U.S. 19 at Moog Road, authorities said.
One of the man's legs was nearly amputated in the 5:23 p.m. accident, said District Chief Doug Drape of Pasco County Fire Rescue. The man, who appeared to be in his late 50s, also suffered bruises and cuts to his head and abdomen. He was flown by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. His name and medical condition were not available.
The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating the accident, which occurred in a southbound lane of U.S. 19 in Holiday.
