Lee Cannon was Pasco County's sheriff for 8 years, until he lost the November election to Bob White. Many of his command staff were longtime employees of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office who resigned or were fired when Bob White took office.
Here's what Cannon's command staff did during their tenure at the Pasco Sheriff's Office and what they are doing now:
Cannon: After taking a job as a lawyer at the Hillsborough County Public Defender's Office, Cannon left to work in private practice in March. He now is a civil litigator at Lentz and Fair in Palm Harbor. "I am trying to benefit my family better in my last working years," he said. When asked of any plans to ever run for elected office again, Cannon chuckled.
"I never say never to anything like that, but right now my concentration is building my law practice and building a secure future for my family," he said. "We'll see what the future brings."
Harold Sample (executive assistant): He is now the executive assistant to Clerk of Court Jed Pittman.
Darlene Green (major): As the agency's highest ranking woman, Green retired after serving 30 years with the agency. She is working on her master's degree at Saint Leo University.
Richard Ortiz (major): Retired.
Gary Fairbanks (major): Retired.
Paul Veslock (major, corrections): Retired.
Bill Kontyko (director of community relations): Retired, but looking for work. "I'd go crazy if I didn't work," he said recently.
Kim Bogart (captain, accreditations): Working on a master's degree at Saint Leo University.
Alta Trufant (human resources director): Retired.
Orville Williamson (director of special projects): A probate investigator with the Clerk of Court.
Tom Brooks (captain): Officer at Tampa International Airport.
William Murphy (captain): Officer at Tampa International Airport.
Jerry Godwin (captain): Retired.
John Fairbanks (captain): A corrections deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Charles Troy (captain): Retired.
Pete Petrosky (captain): Captain, Pasco County Sheriff's Office, head of the Bureau of Uniform Operations.
Tom Hennessy (captain): Captain, Pasco County Sheriff's Office, in charge of corrections.
