The band is back for more
Jacob, Erik, Ashley, Dan and Trevor are back. The second season of Making the Band starts Friday at 8 p.m. on ABC (WFTS-Ch. 28). Local fans might see themselves in one of the episodes because the Making the Band film crew taped the group's Valentine's Day concert in St. Petersburg, when Xpress interviewed three O-Town members. Jacob told us what to expect during the show's second season:
"You don't see a lot of rehearsals," he said. "You see a lot of performing and us putting the show together. You'll see a lot of what it takes. You'll see the inside of a group once it gets started, like the first time we heard our song on the radio."
Egg-cellent
Are your Easter eggs works of art? If so, you may want to enter "The Most Beautiful Easter Egg" contest sponsored by Paas, a maker of egg decorating kits. To enter, decorate an egg and in 100 words or less (about the length of this item) describe your creation. Include information on how Paas was used, why you chose your decorating method and if the egg was designed for a special purpose. Entries must include a photo of the egg.
Send entries to: Paas "The Most Beautiful Easter Egg" Contest, 411 Park St., Upper Montclair, NJ 07043. All entries must be received by May 1. The winner receives a $500 gift certificate. Runners-up receive $25 savings bonds.
Carson and the 'Pussycats'
MTV's Carson Daly will appear in his fiance's new movie Josie and the Pussycats. Carson's gal, Tara Reid, plays Mel, the group's drummer. The flick opens Wednesday and will be full of funky fashions -- modern versions of '70s chic mixed with leopard accessories. Retailers will be selling Josie merchandise, including backpacks, headband ears, T-shirts and dolls.
Shorecrest girl is 'very best'
Nestle and Reading is Fundamental have deemed 34 kids across the country to be the "very best in youth." Alyson Walker, 11, of Largo, was one of those kids. Alyson, a sixth-grader at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, and the others were selected from more than 500 nominations. Alyson will go to California in August to accept her award; $1,000 will be donated in her name to the charity of her choice. All the winners will be featured in a full page ad in USA Today later this year.
Dog-gone
Tahj Mowry stars in the latest Disney Channel original movie, Hounded, which premieres Friday at 7 p.m. Tahj plays a 13-year-old guy who accidentally kidnaps his principal's dog.
