100-year birthdaysBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 11, 2001 Margaret "Peggy" Fear Guill, born April 7, 1896, celebrated her 105th birthday Saturday. Guill was born in Lykens, Pa., to Joseph and Josephine Fear. She has been married twice, first to Harry Demaree, with whom she had three children. She later married John Guill. She met John during World War II while both were working for the U.S. Agriculture Department. The marriage brought Peggy six step-children. She has 24 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Peggy moved to Florida in 1967. Her first love is the piano. She has played since she was 5 and, as a young woman, she played and sang to silent movies. She is a life-long member of the Eastern Star. Eleanor Schwartz, born April 15, 1900, will be celebrating her 101st birthday Sunday. Mrs. Schwartz was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., to Julius and Marion Sanger Frank, owners of Nathan Frank's Sons Department Store. Mrs. Schwartz was very active in American Red Cross volunteer services during World War II, president of the board of the St. Lawrence County Girl Scouts Council, president of the Ogdensburg United Helpers and the League of Women Voters. The Schwartzes were winter residents of the area from 1963 until they moved permanently in 1991. Mr. Schwartz died in 1992. Mrs. Schwartz has two children, Marion Class and J. Frank Schwartz, and four grandchildren. -- We think that living a hundred years is worth our taking notice. If you or someone in your family is about to celebrate their 100th birthday, let us know.
