LEALMAN -- The fire board has some good news. Its request for about $2.2-million in Penny for Pinellas money to build a new fire station has made it past the first cut.
Also on the short list is $100,000 for the Lealman community association to renovate fire station 18 to use as a community center.
The area also is in line to receive another $950,000 in fiscal year 2002-03 to buy land for a recreation center in east Lealman. The Pinellas County Commission will make the final decisions, but that timetable is unknown.
