Teens are invited to the annual Rock 'N Read/Battle of the Bands celebration at 6 p.m. Thursday at Crews Lake Park in Shady Hills. Special musical guests are Harry Dash and People Food.

The Pasco County Parks and Recreation Department is presenting a free Jellybean Jamboree from 9 a.m. till 12 noon Friday at Veterans Memorial Park, 14333 Hicks Road, Hudson. Activities include games, crafts, pony rides and refreshments. Canned food donations are appreciated. For information, call (727) 861-3033.

ArtBeat 2001, an annual teen art show, is on exhibit through April 28 at the Pasco Fine Arts Center, 5744 Moog Road, New Port Richey. Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Saturday. An awards ceremony will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. April 28. Students from Genesis Preparatory and Gulf, Mitchell and Ridgewood high schools are participants. For information, call (727) 845-7322.

The Sixth Annual "Catch A Rising Star" scholarship is available to high school students. Three $500 scholarships will be awarded at the Catch a Rising Star concert, which features local favorite Knight Sounds. Deadline for submitting an application and performance video is Tuesday. River Ridge Drama will celebrate its 10th anniversary by presenting the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Center for the Arts, 11646 Town Center Road, New Port Richey. Evening performances will be held at 7 p.m. April 27 and 28. Matinees are at 2 p.m. April 28 and 29. The Saturday matinee performance will be interpreted for the hearing impaired. Tickets are $5. Gulf Middle School winners in the Future Business Leaders of America District Competition: Taylor Mountain, first-place, entrepreneurship; Shontel Chase, third-place, public speaking; Samantha Batchelor, fourth-place, Introduction to Business; Amanda Fischer, sixth-place, Introduction to Computers; and Stevi Barr, sixth-place, leadership. These students will go on to state competition held in April. Maggie Giampavolo has been named winner of an essay contest sponsored by Rep. Heather Fiorentino and will serve for one week as a page in Tallahassee.
