Student charged with sexual battery on girlBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 12, 2001 SPRING HILL -- A 16-year-old Central High School student has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl after a party. The girl went with a friend to the same party attended by the alleged attacker, a Hernando County sheriff's report states. Later, she told police she went to her friend's house, fell asleep in the bedroom, and woke to find the boy on top of her. She said she could not move or speak. She said she had taken a Xanax pill at the party. Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Joe Paez said deputies are investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident, including how the girl ingested the pill. The Times is withholding the boy's name because of his age and because the investigation is incomplete. The boy was arrested and faces a charge of sexual battery. He was taken to Hernando County Jail and transferred to the state Department of Juvenile Justice.
