Man accused of deserting Army is arrested

LAND O'LAKES -- A routine traffic stop early Wednesday turned up a 20-year-old man wanted for deserting the Army.

Eric Samuel Diaz, of 4903 Addessi Loop in Land O'Lakes, was charged with desertion of the military after Pasco sheriff's deputies learned the Army had issued a warrant for his arrest. Diaz was taken to the county jail Land O'Lakes, where he remained Wednesday without bail.

San Diego extradites suspect in sex assault

LAND O'LAKES -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies extradited a 37-year-old man from San Diego, and arrested him Tuesday for the rape of a young girl.

Russell G. Enright, formerly of Port Richey, was wanted on several outstanding warrants, including an involuntary sexual battery charge.

According to court records, the man had sexual intercourse with the girl sometime between August 1997 and May 1998. The girl was older than 12 and younger than 18 at the time of the incident.

Enright also was wanted on violation of probation charges and failure to appear in court. He was being held without bail Wednesday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes.

Man allegedly spits on deputy taking him to jail

HOLIDAY -- A man who was arrested for slapping and kicking his girlfriend also was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer after he spit on a Pasco deputy Monday night, records show.

A Pasco County sheriff's deputy arrested John Glenn Prouty, 35, of 3237 Masonville Loop, Holiday, at 10 p.m. on Monday. Prouty had slapped his girlfriend in the face and kicked her in the back of the head, the deputy's report said.

As the deputy took Prouty to the county jail in Land O'Lakes, Prouty spit on the deputy and kicked the inside of the cruiser door so hard that plastic on the door broke, a report said.

Prouty was released Wednesday from the county jail on $4,750 bail.
