TAMPA -- After hitting .632 during five games and leading his team to four wins, two against ranked opponents, USF's Dan Boyd was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week.

A senior outfielder, Boyd went 6-for-9 as the Bulls beat nationally ranked Central Florida and Stetson.

He followed that with five hits during the Bulls weekend series against Cincinnati, in which the Bulls took two of three. With a two-run home run against Stetson, Boyd moved into sole possession of second place on USF's career home run list. He then hit a solo blast against Cincinnati on Saturday to tie the score at 5 in the seventh.

He also became the fifth Bull to record 50 career doubles Saturday and took over sole possession of third on the career hit list with 270.

Meanwhile, with five wins in its past seven games, USF is 8-4 in Conference USA.

In beating the Bearcats in two of three, USF has won three of its four league series this season. USF, now in third place in C-USA, plays at Saint Louis (15-17, 5-7) this weekend in a three-game series.

SOFTBALL: In losing 5-2 and 4-1 to Houston last weekend, the Bulls have lost four of their past five games and two consecutive series.

The Bulls are 30-22 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

Still, despite the recent setbacks, the Bulls remain one of the league's top squads.

USF has the best record among C-USA teams in one-run games at 14-6 and also have a C-USA best three wins against top-5 teams.

The Bulls, currently in fourth place, host Louisville in a three-game series this weekend beginning Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

WOMEN'S GOLF: With a strong final round, the Bulls shot a final round 296 and moved up one spot to fifth place at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La. USF's 54-hole score of 907 was 43 strokes behind first-place LSU.

The Bulls were led by senior All-American Kelly Lagedrost, who finished eighth after a final round 74 gave her a 222, 11 shots behind first-place Reilley Rankin of Georgia.

USF sophomore Kelly Martin also had a top-20 finish, shooting a 54-hole 225 to tie for 17th place.
