TAMPA -- When the baseball team lost 6-0 to Eckerd on April 6, it marked the first time in 287 games the Spartans were held scoreless.

Not since a 2-0 loss to Florida Tech on April 7, 1996, had UT been shut out. UT's 287-game scoring streak remains the best in Division II and ranks sixth among all college teams.

Lost in the shuffle was that the loss was just UT's fourth of the season, first in Sunshine State Conference play and first since March 11.

The Spartans were on a 13-game winning streak. However, UT rebounded to defeat Eckerd 11-1 and 7-6 in a doubleheader a day later.

In fact, UT bounced back in a big way, scoring six runs in the first inning to start the doubleheader. Tom Carrow and Adam Bragg led with a combined five hits and five runs scored.

Carrow, UT's leading hitter with a .443 average, went 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Bragg, meanwhile, was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

The Spartans, still ranked No. 1 in the nation, host Lynn (23-17, 6-6) in a three-game weekend series.

SOFTBALL: After taking three of four last weekend, UT crept up the Sunshine State Conference standings and now is tied for third with Lynn.

The Spartans split two games with Lynn on Saturday and took two from Barry a day later to improve to 11-5 in league play and 24-13 overall. Newcomers Christy Exizian and Kristin Abbott continue to lead the Spartans from the mound and offensively, respectively.

Exizian allowed five hits Sunday against Barry in a 1-0 UT win. Exizian, who also had the game-winning hit with an eighth-inning solo home run, walked two and struck out five to improve to 12-4 with a 1.03 ERA. Abbott continues to lead the team with a .346 average and 36 hits. She also has 16 runs and eight RBI.

The Spartans host Florida Tech on April 18 in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.

WOMEN'S ROWING: The Spartans placed third in the SSC women's rowing championships Saturday on the Hillsborough River. Florida Tech won two of the four races to take the title with 75 points. Barry was second with 68 points while UT scored 30 and Rollins was fourth with 21.
