A Hillsborough County woman who was injured last week in an all-terrain vehicle crash died Thursday at Bayfront Medical Center.

Lori Dixon, 25, of Riverview severely injured her trachea April 5 when the four-wheel ATV she was driving struck a wire fence near her father's home on Lorraine Road, 9 miles east of Bradenton.

She had been in critical condition since the crash and had been on life support, said Dixon's father, Billy James Baker.

Riding behind Dixon on the ATV when it crashed was 12-year-old Troy Diaz. The boy, who escaped serious injury, has been living with Dixon's family on Krycul Avenue in Riverview since February. His father and older brother also have been living there.

The role the boy played after the crash is in dispute. Relatives of Dixon and Troy have given conflicting accounts as to whether the boy carried Dixon at least partway home after the crash. Based on interviews with Troy's mother and aunt, the Times reported Monday that he had carried her.

However, Baker said Troy didn't help her in any way, and Manatee County officials have no record of the boy helping her.

Baker said his 9-year-old daughter, who was nearby, ran home to tell her mother. Her mother called 911 and found Dixon walking toward her about 50 yards from the accident site, Baker said. An emergency dispatcher instructed her mother to have Dixon sit down to wait for paramedics.
