Warhawk out for the season

Seminole's Ryan Dixon is out for the season after having surgery on his right shoulder April 4.

Dixon, a preseason All-American pitcher by Baseball America, hadn't pitched in several weeks. He had been a designated hitter, going 25-for-48 with five home runs and 23 RBI.

"After an injection-type saline MRI, they found a slight tear -- and I emphasize slight -- tear of the labrum," Seminole coach Scott Miller said. "There was no guarantee that if he kept hitting that he wouldn't hurt it worse than it is. So the decision was made not to take any chances with this kid's arm.

"He's probably going to be rehabbing for four to six weeks, and if the rehabbing goes good, start tossing. It's a pretty common thing, not a career threatening-type situation at all."

Dixon, who has signed with Miami, was considered a likely first-round pick as a pitcher.
