Two school employees file not guilty pleas
INVERNESS -- Two of the three school employees recently arrested have filed not guilty pleas.
Lawyers for Bob Chambers, a teacher at Lecanto High facing drunk driving charges, filed paperwork Wednesday.
Attorneys for Jeffrey Walz, the assistant principal of Crystal River Middle School facing a retail theft charge, filed similar documents March 30.
INVERNESS -- The post office will offer a pictorial cancellation commemorating the fifth annual Relay for Life.
There will be two cancellations, from 4 to 8 p.m. April 27 honoring cancer survivors and from 7 to 11 a.m. April 28 for finding a cure for cancer.
Pictorial cancellations are special postmarks offered by the Postal Service to commemorate local community events. They are initiated by the sponsors or organizers for the event and often feature wording or graphics related to the activity. They are collectibles.
The Inverness post office will have a booth at the Relay For Life at the Citrus High School football field. The post office booth will have stamps for sale or people can bring their own.
The Relay For Life is an annual fundraiser for the Citrus County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
LECANTO -- The Citrus County Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m., Monday at the Lecanto Senior Citizen Center. Students from Pleasant Grove and Homosassa elementary schools will share what they learned from the Audubon Adventures program.
Through the program, the Audubon Society hopes to help children develop an appreciation, awareness and a sense of stewardship for the natural world.
The Society provides Audubon Adventures to all fourth-graders in the county.
Each classroom received a resource manual and a video from the Audubon/Disney Channel series. They also receive newspapers, leader guides and activities. There is no charge for the meeting and the public is invited.
LECANTO -- The Citrus County Division of Housing Services is offering a Fair Housing and HUD/Section 8 Rental Assistance workshop for landlords, property managers and interested Realtors from 9 to 11 a.m. April 27, at the Lecanto Government Complex, Room 280, 3600 W Sovereign Path.
A representative from Withlacoochee Area Legal Services will explain the Fair Housing Act and how it pertains to rental units and purchasing a home.
The Division of Housing Services representatives will provide information about the HUD/Section 8 Rental Assistance Program and what participation means to a landlord.
