Boomtown Days offers a host of fun events this weekend.

It's Dunnellon's turn to celebrate its heritage this weekend as Boomtown Days takes the town back to the turn of the century with all types of fun activities.
Boomtown Days begins today with some preliminary activities like a costume contest and business decoration contest, with a $50 award for the winner. The unofficial mayor of Boomtown will be elected at City Hall, and the candidates for the Queen of the Rainbow River beauty contest will be introduced after a 7:30 a.m. breakfast at the American Legion Hall.
On Saturday, a 5K run known as the Blue Run Run takes place through the streets of the Rainbow Springs development on U.S. 41 N. Runners can register at 7:30 a.m. before the run at the starting gate for $14. Starting time for the run is 8 a.m.
Other activities Saturday include a flea market and ice cream social from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the old railroad depot on W Pennsylvania Avenue, pontoon boat rides on U.S. 41 and the Withlacoochee River and a Bassmasters casting event for young people from 7 to 14 years old at the same location. Entertainment will feature the Front Porch Singers on a stage at Datesman Street and Ohio Avenue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
On Sunday, the musical entertainment moves to a new stage behind City Hall, overlooking the Withlacoochee River. Other activities will include an antique car show, horse carriage rides, and at 1 p.m., the Little Miss and Mr. Rainbow River pageant, followed at 3:15 p.m. by the Queen of the Rainbow River pageant.
