Around Pinellas

Football

Linebacker Chris Fairchild of Dunedin has signed to play with Jacksonville, a Division I-AA school.

Jacksonville does not give football scholarships, but Fairchild, who scored 1250 on the SAT and has a 3.6 grade point average in his core courses, has received an academic scholarship and financial aid.

The 6-foot, 220-pounder, an all-Pinellas choice this season, chose Jacksonville over Carson-Newman (Tenn.).

Softball

The Clearwater Bullets 16-and-under team recently finished second in the Zephyrhills Spring Water Tournament.

The Bullets were led by pitchers Jessica Bryn and Cassie Pearson and on offense by Ashley Bullion, Amy McGathey and Caitlin DeCristofaro.
