Five tournaments to benefit the American Lung Association will be held beginning May 10. The 2001 Summer Golf Series will benefit patient services programs.

Tournaments will be a two-person scramble format at Countryway Golf Club, 11111 Waters Ave., Tampa. Entry fee includes lunch, drinks, prizes and awards. Tournaments are scheduled for May 10, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9 and Sept. 13.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Cost is $40 per person per tournament or $160 (prepaid) for all five tournaments. Hole sponsorships are available for $125 for the series.

Matt Eaton scored four goals to lead Durant to the Tampa Bay Lightning High School Hockey Conference championship recently at the Ice Sports Forum in Brandon. Durant defeated Daytona 8-6 in the final.

The Lightning Conference is comprised of three divisions with atotal of 18 teams stretching from Jacksonville to the Tampa Bay area.


Mike Albritton of Tampa, a pitcher for the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., was recently named pitcher of the week by the Knickerbocker Baseball Conference.

Albritton, a senior captain, made two appearances against Lehman College, following up two perfect innings in the first game with a complete-game victory four days later.

Albritton, who played at Robinson, tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out 11.


A meeting is planned at 7 p.m. April 24 at the Brandon Ice Sports Forum for those interested in synchronized team skating.

Information will be available on team membership, practice and event schedules and costs.

Potential members also will receive information about tryouts and pre-tryout synchronized skating classes.
