Compiled from Times wires © St. Petersburg Times, published April 15, 2001 ORGANIZE ELSEWHERE: Organizers for a union ally say it opposes their own attempts to organize. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now supports living-wage laws and curbs on predatory lending and counts on unions for help. But a few workers accuse Acorn of unfair labor practices. They want better hours and better pay, among other things. THEY ASKED WHAT? About 21 percent of 1,000 workers surveyed by law Web site FindLaw.com say they have been asked an inappropriate question at job interviews. Women were more likely than men to report such questions, 23 percent versus 18 percent. GOOD ATTENDANCE: Which workers had the lowest absentee rate last year? Farming, forestry and fishing workers, at 2.6 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. $18 AN HOUR: That's the going rate for feeding tigers and cleaning their cages at the San Diego Zoo.
