Blacks, like others, had many reasons for vote

Re: The mayoral election in St. Petersburg.
As black voters, we are not monolithic, totally partisan or "unconscious" when deciding for whom to cast our vote. We consider it very shortsighted and channel-minded to think that the black voters of St. Petersburg cast their votes in the last mayoral election to assure that police Chief Goliath Davis would keep his job. Chief Davis is very qualified and able to assure his own employment opportunities. We are not a thoughtless, solely Democratic voting bloc.
We voted for the only reasonable choice that we had, along with a lot of other discerning citizens in our community, regardless of color.

Gulf Boulevard on the right path
Re: Beautifying Gulf Boulevard, April 8.
The ideas for Gulf Boulevard are great.
The mile markers would help visitors to find hotels, attractions, etc. They could be published on all literature for the beaches.
The trolley seems to be working well, and it looks as though it is crowded with people. The stops could also be listed in the literature.
Keep up the good work. On April 30, at the County Commission workshop, this subject should be on the high-priority list.
