ART AND RELIGION: The Museum of Fine Arts, 255 Beach Drive NE, St. Petersburg, presents a series of programs to foster mutual understanding and respect for diverse spiritual faiths and cultural traditions through art. At 7 p.m., Mary DeMoss, director of the local office of the Foundation for Religious Tolerance of Florida, offers a talk called "Restoring and Safeguarding a Culture of Religious Freedom." Free. FILM ON ISLAM: The Museum of Fine Arts will show a film on Islam at 3 p.m. in conjunction with the museum's Art of the Spirit program. Narrated by Ben Kingsley, the film "explores issues that probe the very core of our existence and give new understanding about our humanity." Free with museum admission. Call 896-2667.

LITTLE THEATER, BIG MUSICAL: The St. Petersburg Little Theater, 4025 31st St. S, presents Fiddler on the Roof at 8 tonight, Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Other performance times are 8 p.m. April 26-28 and 2 p.m. April 29. Tickets are $16 general, $8 for students with ID. Call 866-1973.

SHAKESPEARE ON FILM: The Salvador Dali Museum shows Roman Polanski's MacBeth, his 1971 film interpretation of the Shakespearean tragedy, at 6 p.m. in the museum's Raymond James room, 1000 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. Free with museum admission (half price after 5 p.m.). Call 823-3767.

FLORIDA SOUVENIRS: The St. Petersburg Museum of History opens an exhibit on Florida souvenirs with a party at 7 p.m. at the museum, 335 Second Ave. NE. Mementos from the 1880s to more modern times will be on display, and 30 plastic flamingos, individually decorated by local artists, will be sold at a silent auction. Admission is $15, but free to museum members. Call 894-1052.

THE LAST FRIDAY SWING DANCE: at the Gulfport Casino, 5500 Shore Blvd S, which closes May 1 for renovations. Swing lessons begin at 8 p.m., the dance at 9. All ages welcome, smoke-free, full service bar, free parking. $6. Call 893-1070.

FOR THE BIRDS: Join the National Audubon society and communities across the nation for the world's largest competitive birdwatching event, beginning at dawn at Fort Desoto Park's headquarters and ending at 6 p.m. Considered one of the best spots in Florida to view birds during the spring migration, teams hope to identify between 120 and 160 species on their way from Central and South America to nest throughout the U.S. and Canada. Participants collect pledges that benefit elementary school environmental education programs. TENNIS TIME: The St. Pete Beach Recreation Department celebrates becoming a member of the U.S.A.
