Steelers could lose backup RB to Patriots
PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers have until April 20 to determine whether they'll match a one-year contract that Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala the 250-pound running back signed with the Patriots on Friday.
If the Steelers don't match the Patriots offer, they get a sixth-round draft pick as compensation.
Fuamatu-Ma'afala was a sixth-round draft choice of the Steelers from Utah in 1998.
A broken foot ended his 2000 season after seven games. He rushed for 149 yards on 21 carries and caught 11 passes.
CHIEFS: The Kansas City Star reported Bubby Brister, 38, is scheduled to arrive this week, the team's sixth quarterback visit. XFL quarterback Jim Druckenmiller may yet work out. ... Kansas City is preparing an offer sheet for Rams receiver Tony Horne.
SAINTS: According to Denver's Rocky Mountain News, Texas Rangers general manager Doug Melvin doesn't want to be used as leverage in Ricky Williams' attempt to get a better contract from New Orleans and won't offer him a minor-league tryout.
TITANS: The NFL has told Tennessee it must decide by Tuesday if it can fit reinstated defensive tackle Josh Evans under the salary cap, according to the Nashville Tennessean.
SAN FRANCISCO 26, ORLANDO 25: Mike Panasuk broke a fourth-quarter tie with a 40-yard field goal as the visiting Demons overcame a 16-point deficit.
On the first play from scrimmage after Panasuk's kick, Dwayne Harper intercepted a pass by Jim Arellanes and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. It was Arellanes' first snap after replacing Orlando starter Brian Kuklick.
San Francisco will play today's Los Angeles/Chicago winner in Saturday's Million Dollar Game.
