Because the April 15th filing deadline arrived on the weekend, taxpayers have until midnight tonight to get their returns in the mail (11:59 p.m. if you want to be precise).
As usual, some post offices will be open extended hours to accommodate last-minute filers looking for an April 16 postmark.
In Tampa, postal officials are offering drop-off services from 4 p.m. to midnight in three parking lots to reduce congestion at the main post office.
In St. Petersburg, the main post office at 3135 First Ave. N promises to liven things up for taxpayers with visits from the Chick-Fil-A cow at 4 p.m. and Raymond, the Devil Rays mascot, at 6 p.m. IRS representatives will offer tax help beginning at 4 p.m., Krispy Kreme will distribute doughnuts, and radio station WYUU-FM 92.5 will broadcast live from the site.
Tampa Bay area post offices listed below plan to stay open late. For information about extended hours in other areas, call toll-free 1-800-275-8777.
