Computer Institute offers online trainingBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published April 17, 2001 OCALA -- The Computer Institute at Central Florida Community College is offering new online training through Element K in a wide variety of computer applications that include Microsoft Office, Lotus 1-2-3, Quickbooks, WordPerfect, Cisco CCNA, E-commerce and Web Design, Java, Oracle, Visual Basic, and Unix. Would-be students can enroll at any time for a three-month subscription to unlimited self-study tutorials and instructor-led classes, with more than 700 courses offered in several languages. Element K training has also been implemented at other academic institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of Florida. Two options of CFCC's new online training are available: Office Productivity for $59 and Computer Professional for $99. Free one-hour demonstration and orientation sessions are at 5 p.m. on the following Thursdays: April 19, May 10, May 24, June 7, June 21, July 5, July 19, and Aug. 2 in Ocala, Campus Portable 3, 3001 SW College Road. Holocaust to be remembered at Sunday eventBEVERLY HILLS -- The Annual Yom Hashoa, Holocaust Remembrance Day, will be observed at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the S.J. Kellner Auditorium, 2 Civic Circle, Beverly Hills. A special processional of Holocaust survivors, members of Congregation Beth Sholom, will be made holding special candles plus an additional special candle commemorating the Righteous Gentiles who helped save the lives of countless adults and children from the Nazi protagonists. The program, chaired by Betty Passman, will feature David Bergman, a Holocaust survivor and inventor. The Hebrew Memorial Prayer will be chanted by Helmo Trezesniewsky, a Holocaust survivor, in memory of all whose lives were sacrificed in satisfaction of God's name, the English translation of the prayer will be read by Esther Koenig. The service will consist of dramatic readings by officers of the congregation and its affiliates. Rabbi Zvi Ettinger will recite the Kaddish, the mourners' prayer, and as each word or phrase of the Kaddish is spoken, the audience will announce in unison the name of one of the concentration death camps. This service is supported by the attendance and participation of many members of the Christian clergy, including guest speaker, Pastor Jeff Ruff of the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River.
