Local runners fare well at marathonBy KEITH NIEBUHR © St. Petersburg Times, published April 17, 2001 Prior to running in Monday's Boston Marathon, Inverness residents Jennifer Schmidt and Gloria Dumas worried that the course's steep elevation changes would hurt their respective times. Turns out, they had nothing to fear. The 30-year-old Schmidt turned in a career-best time of 3 hours, 20 minutes, 44 seconds while Dumas, a 39-year-old teacher, finished in 3:49.18. Schmidt broke her previous best by more than three minutes to place 210th out of 5,711 female runners. Dumas was the 1,600th female to finish. There were 15,606 entrants, third most in the race's 105 years. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
