TAMPA -- Neville Green, managing editor of the Tampa edition of the St. Petersburg Times, will assume greater responsibility for the newspaper's overall operations in Hillsborough County, it was announced Monday.

Green, while continuing to oversee the news report, will take on the added duty of helping coordinate the operations of the circulation, advertising and marketing departments in Tampa. Those departments will report to the top executive in their respective areas for the overall Times, but it will be Green's task to ensure the newspaper's efforts in Tampa are more consistent and coherent, said Paul Tash, editor and president of the Times.

"We wanted to bring fresh energy and priority to our efforts in Hillsborough," Tash said. "We also wanted to raise the visibility of the Hillsborough operation within the company. I know Neville will provide excellent leadership."

Green, 50, joined the Times in 1981 after stints with papers in his native New Zealand and Canada. He became managing editor in Tampa in 1994. In 1997, Green edited staff writer Thomas French's Pulitzer Prize-winning series, Angels & Demons.

Jane Peppard, the former top business executive in Tampa, was appointed director of business services for the Times last year.
