Hometown HernandoBy JEAN HAYES © St. Petersburg Times, published April 18, 2001 High FivesTogether, two residents of Heather Sound, a subdivision of The Heather, north of Weeki Wachee, have launched a Web site for fellow residents called "The Heather-On Line." John Holley and Pat DeMasco have been managing their own Heather Sound site for more than a year now, "and it has been extremely successful," said Holley. Recently, the two decided that they wanted to reach a wider audience. "The purpose of the new site is to involve residents of The Heather in their own Web site," said Holley. Each subdivision within The Heather, including Heather Walk, Heather Sound, The Bluffs, The Greens, The Fairways and Pickett's Park, have been given their own Web page to use in whatever manner they wish. In addition, all clubs in The Heather have their own pages. Holley is a seasonal resident of The Heather, living half of the year in the Highlands of Scotland. He is a retired London police officer with 30 years of service. DeMasco is originally from New York and is a full-time resident of The Heather. As neighbors, the two discovered a mutual interest in computers. All material for any of the pages on the new site must be submitted by e-mail via the new Web site or directed to: ferret1@tampabay.rr.com. Both Holley and DeMasco will do the rest. There are no deadlines. Residents may submit as they wish. The Web site address is: http://theheatheronline.homestead.com/HeatherHomePage.html, and must be entered exactly as shown. Since the address is so long, the designers suggest residents add the address to their "favorites" or put it on their computer desktop for ease of use in the future. The Hernando County Commission recently presented William Cooper of Brooksville with a resolution in recognition for his achieving the rank of Eagle Scout on April 3. The commission noted the importance of Hernando County's youth and the significance of their achievements in excellence. The resolution made mention of Cooper's hard work, dedication, loyalty and devotion to scouting. Recently, Cooper, a member of Boy Scout Troop 796, completed his Eagle Scout project, constructing five wooden benches and putting up two basketball hoops at the Dawn Center. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest achievement a Scout can earn. Clubs and OrganizationsThe Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the grand opening of the Hernando Builders Association's 2001 Parade of Homes at Pristine Place from Feb. 24-March 11 with several ribbon cuttings.
