Ombudsman Council to meet

The District 5A Ombudsman Council, representing south and mid-Pinellas, meets at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mary Grizzle Building, 11351 Ulmerton Road, Room 309A, Largo.

The council, part of the Long-term Care Ombudsman Program, is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers who act as advocates to residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. For information, call (888) 831-0404.

Boys and Girls Clubs receive grants

The Pinellas County Millennium Celebration's Youth Committee and Boys and Girls Clubs of the Suncoast has been granted $130,000 in funding from the Juvenile Welfare Board's New and Expanded Funding Cycle for development of a new teen center at 7790 61st St. N, Pinellas Park.

Local teens collaborated to research the project, solicit funding and support, and decided on the creation of the teen center as a legacy to future teens in Pinellas County. Call (727) 341-3275.

Moms invited to gun control rally

Bay area mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers and others who are interested in joining the Million Mom March gun control rally in Washington, D.C. on Mother's Day, May 14, may call Cathy Wilson at (727) 443-4663.

Museum seeks donations

The Florida Holocaust Museum is seeking donations of prizes and gifts for its golf tournament to be held May 5 in Belleair.

Prizes are needed for the raffle and auction that will accompany the tournament and all donations are tax deductible. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the museum.

Dim lights for turtles

In preparation for sea turtle nesting season, the city of Indian Rocks Beach will be conducting preliminary inspections along the beach, encouraging residents to comply with the turtle lighting program.

To help encourage nesting turtles and hatchlings to return to the ocean, minimum use of artificial lighting is required. The season runs from May 1 through Oct. 31. For information, call 517-0404.
