TAMPA -- The men's and women's tennis teams won't have to worry about first-round competition at the upcoming Conference USA Tournament.

That's because the men earned the No. 1 seed and the women are seeded third for the tournaments, which begin today in New Orleans.

Both will receive first-round byes.

The men finished the regular season 15-6, including 4-1 in C-USA play.

The Bulls will play today against the winner of Marquette and DePaul.

USF defeated both teams this season, 6-1 over Marquette and 7-0 over DePaul.

If the men advance, they would move into the semifinals Saturday. The final is Sunday.

The women play the winner of Cincinnati and Southern Mississippi in the quarterfinals. The semifinals are Saturday, and the final is Sunday.

Should either team win a title, they would receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. SOFTBALL: The Bulls split a doubleheader Wednesday against Stetson to improve to 33-24. They are 6-6 in Conference USA.

The Bulls dropped the first game 1-0 but rebounded to win the second 2-1. The win by Stetson was just its third-ever against USF, which leads the series 33-3.

In the first game, the Bulls were hitless through four innings and only two Bulls reached base through five innings. Stetson scored its run in the bottom of the fourth.

In the second game, late runs by Cindy Turek and Ginny Georgantas led to the comeback win.

USF travels to face Charlotte this weekend before returning home Wednesday to host Florida in a doubleheader.

TRACK AND FIELD: USF senior Kerine Black won the long jump and placed second in the 100 meters and the triple jump April 13 at the Miami Gatorade Invitational. Black, who already has qualifying standards for the NCAA Championships in all three events (as well as the 200) won the long jump with a leap of 6.21 meters.

Black ran the 100 in 11.56 seconds, .07 seconds off of her season-best time. In the triple jump, Black leapt 13.10 meters.

Dyana Octavian finished second in the discus with a throw of 45.58 meters.
