Boy, 13, arrested for bringing knife to school

LAND O'LAKES -- A 13-year-old student at Pine View Middle School was arrested Tuesday afternoon for bringing a knife to school.

The teen is an eighth-grader at the school.

Pasco County sheriff's deputies said he brought the knife, which had a 33/4-inch blade, to school in his left front pocket.

The teenager handed over the knife to deputies and told them he accidentally left it in his pocket after he and a friend had planned on going on a camping trip.

He was charged with possession of a knife on school property.

He was taken to the Pasco County juvenile detention center. Officials there declined to comment on whether he remained in custody Thursday.

Bank teller tried to bilk customers, deputies say

ZEPHYRHILLS -- A local bank teller was arrested Tuesday on charges of trying to defraud three customers.

Misty Brooke Barry, 20, of 37415 Carringer Road in Dade City, worked at Suntrust Bank at 5435 Gall Blvd.

Pasco County sheriff's deputies said Barry changed the addresses of three customers' accounts.

To change an address, the bank needs a customer's Social Security number and last deposit. Barry was the last teller to access all three accounts, deputies said.

They said she changed each account to an address in Zephyrhills, which later was determined to be a friend of Barry's boyfriend.

One account also had $6,000 taken out of it, and Barry had ordered a new ATM card for the account.

Barry was charged with scheming to defraud and grand theft.

She was taken to Land O'Lakes jail, where she was released Wednesday on $10,000 bail.

Man jailed after trying to outrun deputies

DADE CITY -- A 46-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after leading Pasco County sheriff's deputies on a foot chase, a report said.

Garth Peter Kelley, with an at-large address, was a passenger in a gold Chevrolet Impala deputies were pursuing around 7:30 p.m. When the car stopped, Kelley fled on foot, though deputies soon caught up to him.

On the ground beside him they found a plastic bag containing marijuana and methamphetamine, the report said.

A check also revealed Kelley had an active Pasco County warrant for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Kelley was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and the outstanding warrant charge.

He was taken to Land O'Lakes jail, where he remained Thursday in lieu of $6,500 bail.
