Recent releases recommended by Times film critic Steve Persall
- Rules of Engagement -- Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones are a formidable acting duo, playing a court martialed U.S Marine and the lawyer defending him.
- Keeping the Faith -- Did you hear the one about a rabbi (Ben Stiller) a priest (Edward Norton) and the childhood pal (Jenna Elfman) they love? Maybe you should.
- Where the Money Is -- Paul Newman is cooler than the other side of the pillow as an aging bank robber pulling a heist with his nurse (Linda Fiorentino).
- Erin Brockovich - Julia Roberts makes the most of a sure-fire role, playing a diligent floozy sparking a huge settlement for victims of corporate water contamination. Standard courtroom stuff, lifted another notch by Roberts.
- My Dog Skip - Sentimental, true-life story of a Mississippi boy whose beloved dog introduces him to adolescence. This is not kid stuff, but mature PG-rated entertainment for the entire family.
