PITTSBURGH -- The Steelers signed unrestricted free agent linebacker Mike Jones, the team said.
Jones spent the past four seasons with the Rams. He saved St. Louis' 23-16 victory over Tennessee in Super Bowl XXXIV by tackling Titans receiver Kevin Dyson short of the goal line on the final play.
Terms of Jones' contract weren't disclosed.
The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Jones started all 16 games for the Rams last season, totaling 91 tackles with two sacks and nine passes defensed.
Jones, 31, spent his first six seasons with the Raiders before signing with the Rams as a free agent in 1997. He has 665 tackles over his 10-year career, with 490 solo stops, and eight sacks.
Jones is expected to challenge for the starting spot vacated by Levon Kirkland, who signed as a free agent with the Seahawks.
RHEIN 24, AMSTERDAM 21: Giovanni Carmazzi threw two touchdowns as the Fire opened defense of its league title with a win in Duesseldorf, Germany.
Duesseldorf had to hang on through a final Amsterdam drive that ended when Clarence Williams fumbled on the Fire 15-yard line with 1:15 to play.
Carmazzi, allocated from the 49ers, threw scoring passes of 26 yards to Michael Lewis and 18 yards to Eddie Hardaway. Spergon Wynn, who fumbled on the game's opening play, setting the stage for the first of Carmazzi's scoring passes, hooked up with Drew O'Connor on a 4-yard score, and Justin Skinner had two field goals for the Admirals.
BARCELONA 21, BERLIN 14: Quarterbacks Roderick Robinson and Jarious Jackson led the visiting Dragons.
Jackson, who played at Notre Dame, hit Brian Gilmore with a 47-yard scoring pass in the third quarter, giving the Dragons a 21-7 lead. Robinson scored on a 3-yard bootleg just before the half, when Barcelona went ahead 14-7.
The quarterbacks alternated each quarter.
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Jonathan Quinn tied the score at 7 early in the second quarter, hitting Scot Osborne of the Seahawks with an 8-yard pass.
SCOTLAND 24, FRANKFURT 21: The host Claymores overcame three touchdown passes by Michael Bishop.
Despite the loss, the Galaxy totaled 368 yards of offense to 171 for Scotland. Bishop -- allocated from the Patriots -- completed 14 of 24 passes for 255 yards.
Dante Hall ran for a 7-yard touchdown, Clint Stoerner threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Gerald Williams, London Dunlap fell on a blocked punt in the Frankfurt end zone and Rob Hart kicked a 30-yard field goal for Scotland.
