Video game reviewsBy ROBB GUIDO © St. Petersburg Times, published April 23, 2001 The BouncerSYSTEM: PlayStation 2 MAKER: SquareSoft PRICE: $49.99 The Bouncer really is just a brawler in which players beat down ruffian after ruffian. But its many story scenes make it feel like a movie. SquareSoft fans should definitely check it out. Grade: B Army Men: Sarge's Heroes 2SYSTEM: PlayStation 2 MAKER: 3DO PRICE: $49.99 Sarge's Heroes is cuter than the other Army Men games, in that players battle inside a house on oversize tables and such. Unfortunately, this one inherits the repetitive action of the other Army Men games. Grade: D+ Speed Devils OnlineSYSTEM: Dreamcast MAKER: UbiSoft PRICE: $49.99 Speed Devils separates itself from other racers with unique race conditions, such as during a tornado, and an online option. Outside of the weird conditions, however, the races don't offer that much excitement. Grade: C+ SpongeBob SquarePants: Legend of the Lost SpatulaSYSTEM: Game Boy Color MAKER: THQ PRICE: $29.99 These Nickelodeon cartoons just keep getting weirder. I mean, what happened to Rugrats? For kids interested in this series, SpongeBob offers a lot of search-and-find activities. The littlest players may have trouble getting SpongeBob to hit his mark on jumps. Grade: C+ Warriors of Might and MagicSYSTEM: PlayStation 2 MAKER: 3DO PRICE: $49.99 I was surprised with how nice Warriors looked. Usually 3DO games aren't known for their visual excellence, but Warriors is full of cool creatures and beautifully lit caverns. Too bad the action is more repetitive than a broken record. Grade: C- T.J. Lavin's Ultimate BMXSYSTEM: PlayStation MAKER: THQ Ultimate PRICE: $39.99 BMX is a game that has been done many times before, starting with Tony Hawk. Perform tricks and clear objectives, one level after another. At least the controls don't hinder this one. Grade: C+ - Robb Guido is an avid gamer who lives in Tampa.
