Captain's Corner

Spring allows a variety of options. All the local wrecks are abundant with gamefish.

Local tackle stores can supply maps revealing specific coordinates of numerous wrecks in our area. Most of these are compliments of a state-funded artificial reef program. Everything from concrete pillars to 100-foot boats have been planted to enhance sea life. These structures lure schools of baitfish, which in turn attracts larger predators.

Anchoring up-tide from wrecks will produce the best results. Stout tackle is a must since most fish will head for the structure once hooked. Fifty-pound line will work great. The bait of choice is normally what is living there. The wrecks closer to shore are abundant with threadfin herring, and offshore structures have Spanish sardines.
